Muslim Aid Sri Lanka started its Microfinance intervention as a pilot project in 2007-2008 with the objective to economically empower the low-income segment. The institution was later registered under The Companies Act No. 07 of 2007 as a Company Limited by Guarantee. Muslim Aid Microcredit Guarantee Limited operates with the vision of alleviating both poverty and the dependency syndrome existing within the entrepreneurial poor. Since its inception Muslim Aid Micro Credit supports the expansion of micro, small businesses, self-employment, and fishing and finery sectors in addition to the agriculture sector. Muslim Aid provides the destitute with interest-free, collateral-free microcredit to help secure a stable future. At the same time, Muslim Aid also ensures that growth is nurtured by providing skills training, financial literacies and market linkages. Muslim Aid’s holistic approach to microfinance takes into account, the needs of the people and emphasizes on skills training and education in tackling poverty at its root.
